Denmark’s The Kissaway Trail are not your usual indie rock band. If you’re expecting some dreary-haired skinny youth strumming a guitar and sweeping his greasy fringe across his spotty forehead, you’ll be sorely disappointed.
With heartfelt voices and emotional lyrics you would be forgiven for thinking that they use music is a form of counselling to excrete inner demons and escape the hefty therapy bill.
Using lyrics to tell their story the Danish lads go from happy go lucky to loss and loathing with their track 61. Reportedly referring to the number of days it took for one of the members to find out about a loved ones illness the song has a lot to offer.
With good looks and lush melodies the Danish group are a new alternative to the funny looking, skinny-jean-wearing acts that currently reign in the charts. The two singers in the band may have the typical indie voice but what comes out of it, is what makes all the difference. Singing about life and its unexpected twists and turns this indie group have used their misfortunes to their advantage producing music that actually tells a story.
Both sincere and endearing The Kissaway Trail bring flourishing melodies to your ears with their new take on an overpopulated world of so-called indie music. Admittedly in some songs they all sound slightly bipolar, jumping from mood to mood but with SLUT and Daniel Johnston as their named influences it’s not hard to see why they spark images of Johnny Depp in Charlie and The Chocolate factory. Although eerie and dark at times they instil a sense of security into their audience that their music always ends on a high despite its dark depths and meandering along the way.
With anthem style sound the five-piece shout ‘yeah’ in union at every opportunity but in their defence it does give a sense of togetherness. With perfectly played instruments from guitar to piano this indie alternative are not to be missed. With an individual slant on the English language the band advise you to have a listen if not just to learn some new anthem style phrases to put in your indie rock vocabulary box. Unlike most bands, these guys have been able to complement the polyphonic sounds with guitar and piano, which makes for a sound unlike any other. The strong vocal duo ensures that the lads take the band to the forefront of modern thinking music where lyrical sound overturns jerky new wave guitars.
